Race to Raise at the South of England Centre - 30/08/2011
The South of England Centre is hosting Tesco and Cancer Research UK Race for Life on Saturday 16th July to raise money for more life-saving research.
The charity is inviting ladies from Mid Sussex and the surrounding areas to join the girls this summer and raise money to help more people survive cancer. Race for Life was first held at The South of England Centre, Ardingly in 2008 and an incredible £175,000 was raised with the help of 2,000 women walking, jogging or running the event. In 2011, organisers are encouraging women to put their best foot forward and raise the same again.
Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is the UK’s largest women only fundraising series. Women of all ages and fitness levels are invited to seize the chance to enter the event and join together to walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer.
The facilities at The South of England Centre are ideal with the Showground providing the perfect backdrop for the event. Deborah Barber, Director of the South of England Centre, explains “This is the fourth year we have hosted Race for Life and we hope to repeat the success we have achieved in previous years. The facilities have always proved the perfect place for the event and we look forward to meeting everyone who turns up this year!”
Lea Blake, Race for Life Area Event Manager for Sussex, said: “This is such an amazing opportunity for women of all ages, size, shape and abilities to do something amazing and raise money for cancer. They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k course. Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun but they all share the wonderful spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day.”
It is hoped 2,000 women and girls will take part in the Ardingly event and raise £148,368. There are over 300 events taking place across the UK between May and July. Cancer Research UK and Tesco hope that together they will raise a total of £80 million to fund the charity’s life saving work. Women in the South East are invited to enter Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 641 1111.
